Yesterday was Myles' birthday and it's evident that we have sufficiently confused him. We had his birthday party almost a month ago so he is confused why we're celebrating again! He woke up this morning and asked me, "Am I still 3?" I don't know if he thought he went back to being 2 or already grew into a 4 year old. Regardless, it was cute.
Myles wanted a "Woody Birthday" which translated, means he had a Toy Story 3 party. We went with the Vallacorbas to see the movie in 3D. The kids loved it and we adults did too. Myles was so excited about being there. When it was almost silent in the theater, Myles leaned over to Daniel and told him excitedly, "You're my best buddy." Seeing the little guys so happy and in their 3D glasses (that were 10 times too big) was sweet as can be. After the movie, we came home and let the kids play outside with their bikes and toys. Then, we ate dinner and Myles' birthday cupcakes. He was on cloud nine and loved his 3rd birthday!
Gene and Vicki will be here in the beginning of September and we'll be celebrating Myles' birthday one mo' time. We can't wait to have them here. I'm concerned though that after another party, Myles might think he's already 5! Myles, you're still 3 and I can tell it's going to be another great year for you. I just added a photo album of his birthday party pics.

Pink, Pink, Pink...and more Pink. We read Syd's favorite book Pinkalicious, all the girls wore pink, we ate pink (watermelon, strawberries, pink snicker-doodles, etc), they had a pink spa party with pink painted nails, put on pink tattoos, drank pink lemonade and ate beautiful pink cupcakes! It was definitely a birthday that Syd won't forget. She had 8 of her closest girl friends plus 3 wonderful little brothers were there. Even her dad came up big and wore a PINK soccer jersey and socks for Syd. It was officially the ONLY time that I've ever seen him in pink! Syd LOVED it! Here is a pic of the happy pink girls. More pics added in the photo album.

School just ended for Sydney last week and they had a big Pre-K graduation ceremony. Matt and I were both able to go and she was SO excited and proud to sing their songs. There were about 5 English and 5 French songs they sang. Let's just say that she is SERIOUS about singing. It was hysterical. She wanted everyone in the room to know that she knew every word to every song. She was loud (borderline screaming)...regardless of which language she was singing! We got some priceless video of it.
They had a special class with so many friends and amazing teachers. She was in this same Pre-K classroom for the last 2 years. It's sad to move on but she's ready and excited for Kindergarten.
They ended the graduation ceremony with the Beetles song, "Hello, Goodbye" complete with rock star microphones. They enthusiastically even sang the instrumental part, "Dey er Neyer"
You say yes, I say no
You say stop and I say go, go, go (Dey er Neyer)
Oh, no
You say goodbye and I say hello
Hello, hello

Myles' first movie at the theater was Shrek 4 and he really liked it. He has watched the original Shrek at home so he kind of knew what to expect. He wasn't too sure about the 3D glasses though. I think he watched the majority of the movie fuzzy, without the glasses! Being a part of the experience with popcorn and our family made it special though. Do you think they should start making the glasses a bit smaller for kids? Look how the glasses take up his whole face!
He's already decided that he wants a "Woody" birthday party this year. He wants to go see Toy Story 3 to celebrate!

Last night Sydney rode her bike without training wheels and did SOOOO great. We were so proud and excited for her. She was so brave and extremely determined. She got going so fast that I could barely keep up with her while running beside the bike! Towards the end, she wanted to try starting off on her own, without me holding the seat to keep her balanced. She finally got it but fell before then and skinned her lip. We went inside to clean it up. I asked her if she’d like to go out again and try the bike one more time. Once she finished crying she said “No, I want to go try it 3 more times.”
Before we went outside, we talked with her Aunt Megin on Skype. Megin told her that she was SURE that Syd could do it without training wheels. I swear her comment light a fire under Syd and made her so focused to do it on her own. She’s so excited to do it again today! It's going to be a fun summer!

As a parent, there have been many times that I was sure that Syd was going to LOVE something...and I've been dead wrong. Then, there are times that I'm pleasantly surprised by Sydney's big moments. I knew she would have a great time at Tina's house for a pool party but I didn't know it would be such a big deal to her. In her mind, going to a pool party is what BIG girls...even teenagers do. Once we got to Tinas, she looked around at all the other kids and she looked at me with stars in her eyes and said, "Mom, is this my very first pool party?" It was a cute moment and the day lived up to her expectations. There were 4 moms with a slew of kids (over 10 of them), tons of food and lots of laughs. Thanks again Tina for a wonderful day! I added a few pictures in the photo album...

I'll be the first to admit it, I was SUPER skeptical of Matt cutting Myles' hair. We've always taken Myles to a hair stylist/barber for his haircuts but Matt was convinced that he was going to give Myles a summer hairdo. I held the haircut idea off for a whole month but finally gave in on the battle today, and boy does he look cute. All of Matt's practice on his high school buddies paid off. He did such a great job.
To Myles' credit, he sat still and only complained a couple times that the clippers were too loud and wiggled lots because of all the tickley hair on his neck. He looks so grown up and is lovin' his styled faux hawk.
I posted more pictures in our photo album.

Okay, maybe it's not technically a big boy bed, it's actually a crib day bed but Myles FEELS like a big boy in it! We finally took the plunge and changed his bed and gave him some freedom. We have many memories of Syd and this LONG transition for her so we were hesitant to make the change for Myles too early. To his credit, he has done a fantastic job. He has slept in it now for the past 3 nights and has slept through the night. He LOVES the bed time routine of climbing into his own bed. In the morning, he wakes up and climbs into bed with Syd...or vice versa.
When we changed his bed, the very first thing he did was spend 10 minutes in his bed alone, standing up, throwing his puppy from his bed to Sydney's bed. Then, he'd get down from his bed, onto hers and back on his bed, to throw puppy again. He must have done it 20 times...and I took pics! It was so 'boy' and I loved watching his fascination with being able to get in and out of bed...and of course, the game included his beloved puppy! Pictures were added in our Spring has Sprung album.

She still has 2 months to go until her birthday but she knows that a lot of exciting things come with being 5...mostly Kindergarten! Speaking of Kindergarten, her Pre-K class has already started working on their songs for the graduation ceremony! She loves all the songs they are singing and even teaches them to Myles. In fact, her teacher told her that if she was absent one day, that Sydney could take over as substitute teacher because she knows every word to every song already…and graduation isn’t until mid-June. My favorite song that they’re learning is The Beatles’ Hello Goodbye.
She’s doing well with reading but doesn’t really want to let on that she knows. The only time that she reads to us is when we’re playing on starfall.com. What a great website for early readers! She really loves it.
Art projects around here are a big deal. Her typical drawings always consist of the same things. She always has rainbows, butterflies, tulips, grass, clouds and hearts. If we’re lucky, she’ll include some African animals. She’s been practicing drawing elephants, lions and monkeys. Her favorite way to make her art projects fancy are her jewel stickers. She guards them with her life! The art projects that she’s most proud of, she folds and turns into fans. She looks like a true Southern Belle fanning herself!
Most games that she plays with Myles are centered around Winnie the Pooh. They have a Pooh movie and they adore it. They sing his honey songs and take turns pretending to be the honey pots and I'm the bear...who has to chase and tickle the honey out of them. When something goes wrong she says "oh bother" just like Pooh and when she's hungry she sings about having a "rumbly in her tumbly" and wanting a "smackeral of honey."
She has her typical “I’m 4 and I’m going to test you” moments but for the most part, she is such a good girl and is really fun to be with. She is always making us laugh. She’s growing up so fast. Is it possible to just keep her at 4 ½ forever? I know SHE's ready to be 5 but I'm not sure if I am ready for that!

Myles at 2 ½ is so much fun. He laughs harder than any kid I know. He laughs with his entire body, turns red and can hardly breathe when he’s laughing. Tickling, the Ketchup game, the “you don’t like…” game and Sydney’s potty jokes make him laugh the hardest.
He is now a potty champ! He’s doing so well with underwear and overall potty training. He still has to wear a pull-up diaper when he is at daycare though. He gives me a full report the second I come pick him up. He sprints at me saying, “Mommy I had a dry ‘pool up’ ALL day!!” I can’t correct him. I love the way he says pull-up!
He still hasn’t mastered his C’s or K’s yet. Cookie = Tootie, Okay = Otay, Milk = Meelt, and my all time favorite, Cucumber = Tootumber.
Today, I commented on what nice manners he had. I told him he’s a sweet boy. He nodded and told me, “and I a Bello.” Bello is ‘handsome boy’ in Italian. :) His teacher at school calls him Bello all the time. So, I guess we need to expand our long list of nicknames for him…Mr. Myles, Duder, Mr. Dude, Duder-skooter, Stinker AND Bello!
As if Sydney doesn’t give me enough headaches with what she wants to wear, Myles is now really picky about his shoes. (as I make the sign of the cross!) He’s very set in his ways. He has to wear his soccer cleats to certain parks, he must wear certain running shoes to daycare and he has to have Crocs on in the house. To his credit though, he’s super independent and loves to get himself dressed so he normally can find the “right” shoes for the moment!
His favorite toys are his goalie gloves (they go everywhere with us), Spiderman, his toolbox, drum sticks, balls and hockey sticks.
I’m a bit embarrassed to admit that we still have him in a crib. He sleeps like an angel though so it’s hard to change a good thing. I can’t even think of the last time he was up at night. He seems to be ready for the change soon though. I think we’ll tackle that in the next month or so.
Myles is such a special little Duder. He’s really so mild-mannered and (knock on wood) he and Sydney get along so well. They are such great buddies. Unprompted they hug goodbye and wish each other a good day when Syd leaves for school in the morning. They have their occasional fight (normally over which placemat they get for breakfast) but for the majority of the day, they play so nicely. I feel so blessed for them and their relationship….especially because I’ve heard from other mothers that it might not stay like this forever. Regardless, I’m going to enjoy this sweet time to the fullest!
