Catch up with our kids: Myles is three (or 'free' as he says it)!
Posted by: lori on Sunday, August 22, 2010 - 08:40 AM
Myles at 2 Yesterday was Myles' birthday and it's evident that we have sufficiently confused him. We had his birthday party almost a month ago so he is confused why we're celebrating again! He woke up this morning and asked me, "Am I still 3?" I don't know if he thought he went back to being 2 or already grew into a 4 year old. Regardless, it was cute.

Myles wanted a "Woody Birthday" which translated, means he had a Toy Story 3 party. We went with the Vallacorbas to see the movie in 3D. The kids loved it and we adults did too. Myles was so excited about being there. When it was almost silent in the theater, Myles leaned over to Daniel and told him excitedly, "You're my best buddy." Seeing the little guys so happy and in their 3D glasses (that were 10 times too big) was sweet as can be. After the movie, we came home and let the kids play outside with their bikes and toys. Then, we ate dinner and Myles' birthday cupcakes. He was on cloud nine and loved his 3rd birthday!

Gene and Vicki will be here in the beginning of September and we'll be celebrating Myles' birthday one mo' time. We can't wait to have them here. I'm concerned though that after another party, Myles might think he's already 5! Myles, you're still 3 and I can tell it's going to be another great year for you. I just added a photo album of his birthday party pics.

The Inside Scoop: The Children's Festival - our 4th time!
Posted by: lori on Sunday, August 15, 2010 - 09:06 PM
Canada Heart It's amazing to me that we've been in Montreal long enough to experience the Children's Festival for a FOURTH time! Syd feels like a veteran there now. She knows what to expect and looks for her favorite tents, inflatables and craft areas. It was fun to see how much Myles loved it. Last year he only made it a few hours before falling asleep in the stroller and this year he went strong all day long! They had it all today...a zip line, bungie jumpers, outdoor ice skating sans ice (!) and our all-time favorite, the painted houses. They assembled cute play houses made out of cardboard and gave the kids free reign to paint them. The kids took a lot of pride in painting it. Once it was painted, they stayed in it a long time and did puppet shows with their new lion puppets.

The fourth time at the festival did NOT disappoint! In fact, it's getting more fun as the kids get older and it's days like this that reminds me how fast they are growing up! (A new photo album was added from today)

The Inside Scoop: It's ALL about ME!
Posted by: lori on Saturday, July 31, 2010 - 09:39 PM
Jordans 2010 I’ve received quite a few emails from friends over the years that complain that I always write about the family and what we’re up to…but I never write about me. So, this is for all you vocal friends that complain about my blog. This is one of my only updates on ME and only me!

I’m really enjoying the kids and not working right now. Don’t get me wrong though, it’s a full time job to keep 2 very active kids busy! In addition to the usual mommy duties, I volunteered last year at Sydney’s school, in the library on Mondays. It was the first time that I really thought that I might want to work in a school setting. I will volunteer there again this school year 1-2 days a week. Before I know it, Myles will be in Kindergarten and by then, I know I’ll be ready to get back to work, even if it’s just part time. For now, I’m going to soak up the fun/chaos with the kids!

I’m pretty proud to say that we have made a container garden on our back porch this summer and we’ve actually been able to eat some of it! We have lots of herbs, lettuce, tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, eggplant, green beans, etc. My neighbor and I are sharing the responsibilities as well as the veggies! She definitely has a green thumb...whereas my thumb is only yellow at best! ☺ I’m learning though.

Ever since watching the movie, Food Inc. I’ve changed my thinking about food and made big changes in our diet. We’ve always eaten healthy but we’re making a bigger emphasis on organics, eating even more veggies and finding other sources of protein besides meat. Don’t worry, (Dad!) we haven’t become vegetarians, but we’re definitely eating less meat. I’m thankful that Matt and the kids eat (& hardly complain) about my experiments with tofu and all sorts of bean soups! It’s actually been a fun challenge to come up with other recipes and be more creative when dinner time comes around.

I have such a great life, thanks to a positive outlook, amazing family and genuine friends. So, I hope that update on me is sufficient. If not, you owe me a call so we can really catch up. Puh-lease, I invite you to call me and complain! xoxoxo!

Soccer results: He's back!!!!!!!
Posted by: lori on Friday, July 30, 2010 - 09:26 PM
Matt with Impact Ever since a groin strain in the AC Milan game in June, Matt has been battling the injury. He was hoping it would only keep him out for 2-3 games. Almost 2 months later and TONS of hard work; Matt is back! It was so great to see him out there again. They played Vancouver on Wednesday night and Matt was welcomed whole heartily from the home crowd. It was also special that our friend, Bob from Texas was visiting and able to watch the game. Cynthia and Nelson were also there, cheering him on!

Matt played really well and made some big saves. They maintained a 0-0 score until the 87th minute. They ended up losing 0-1. A loss is never fun but regardless, Matt had a solid game. The team is off to Baltimore, Maryland this weekend for a game on Saturday night.
